How to Use Roommate's Share

This guide explains the main workflow of the application in simple steps. The exact options available to you may depend on your account role and the current room setup.

  1. Open Roommate's Share and sign in to your account.
  2. Create a new room or join an existing room.
  3. Add or invite the required roommates.
  4. Make sure the correct members are active in the room.

Creating or Accessing Your Account

To use the application's private expense-sharing features, start by opening the Roommate's Share app and signing in.

Sign in

  1. Open the 'Roommate-s-Share.web.app' any browser or the mobile application.
  2. Select the button Open the App.
  3. Select the available Gmail account and sign-in with your gmail account.
  4. Complete the authentication process.
  5. After successful sign-in, you can access the application features available to your account.
Tip: Use your own account and do not share your account access information with other people.

Creating or Joining a Room

A room is the shared space where roommates can organize their common expenses.

Create a room

If you are starting a new group, use the room creation feature available in the navbar 3 dot menu. click Add Room id after select user role and complete the setup. after creating the room, you can share the room id with your roommates so they can join the room.

Join an existing room

Room Joining Instructions After clicking the room link shared by the admin and opening the app: Tap the three-dot menu in the navigation bar. Select the Add Room ID option. Your room ID will be displayed there. Simply click the Join Room button to successfully join the room owner's room.

Important: Make sure you are joining the correct room before entering shared expense information.

Managing Roommates

Roommate's Share allows a shared group to keep track of the people Role in the room.

Managing Roommate Status (Active / Inactive)

If a roommate leaves the room on any date during the month, the room owner can easily set their status to Inactive. How to Make a Roommate Inactive: Locate the roommate who is leaving and click the Inactive button next to their name. Select the exact date they left the room. Click Save. (Once saved, the roommate will become inactive from that selected date for the month and will no longer be included in subsequent calculations.) How to Reactivate a Roommate: If that same roommate joins back later, the process is just as simple: Click the Active button next to their name. Select the date they rejoined. Click Save. (The user will be successfully added back to the room and included in calculations from that date onward.)

Member roles

Admins or room owners can easily change the roles of roommates in the room. Steps to Change a Role: Open the three-dot menu in the navigation bar and select Manage Members. A list of all joined roommates will be displayed with their current roles: If a roommate is currently an Admin, a Make Member button will appear next to their name. If a roommate is currently a Member, a Make Admin button will appear next to their name. Simply click the respective button to instantly update and change the roommate's role.

Shared Expenses

Recording expenses is one of the main functions of Roommate's Share.Sharing monthly expenses is very easy. Simply open the three-dot menu in the navigation bar and click on Share Summary. You will get various options to share, and from there, users can easily share their full month's expenses.

Basic expense workflow

  1. Open the expense section of your room.
  2. Select the option to add a new expense.
  3. Enter the expense amount.
  4. Enter or select the relevant expense information.
  5. Select the person who paid for the expense.
  6. Select the members who should share the expense, according to the actual situation.
  7. Save the expense record.
Important: Enter the actual amount and select the correct payer and participating members. Incorrect input can result in an incorrect balance calculation.

Understanding Balances

Roommate's Share uses the recorded shared expense information to help members understand their current expense position.

Depending on the expenses entered,Every roommate's share amount can be viewed easily. If a roommate has paid more than their actual share, the amount will be shown with a plus (+) sign in their balance. At the end of the month, they will not need to pay any extra money; instead, they will receive money back from other roommates.
